While widespread rumors point to the standard iPhone 18 launching in early 2027 with a screen similar to the current iPhone 17's, a new report hints at a potential upgrade to its brightness capabilities.
Tipster Instant Digital, posting on Weibo, suggests that display supplier BOE may be unable to provide OLED panels for the iPhone 18 due to Apple's reportedly stringent brightness specifications being too challenging to meet.

This development implies that the iPhone 18's display could be significantly brighter than its predecessor. For context, the iPhone 17 offers a typical maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, up to 1,600 nits for HDR content, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
Recent leaks also indicate the iPhone 18 will feature a 6.27-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and the Dynamic Island.
Additionally, speculation suggests the iPhone 18 may deviate from Apple's traditional September launch schedule and instead be unveiled in early 2027, potentially alongside a more budget-friendly model, the iPhone 18e.
