Google launches Personal Intelligence for Gemini
Google / Google
Google has today launched a feature called Personal Intelligence for its Gemini AI. This is an optional setting. When activated, it securely links data from connected Google services—including Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Photos—allowing Gemini to reference this information in your conversations with it. The feature is being released over the coming week to qualifying Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States, and will function on the web as well as on Android and iOS platforms.

Eligible users in the US can check for its availability by visiting the Gemini app or website and navigating to Settings > Personal Intelligence. This menu is where you choose which specific apps to connect to Gemini.
The primary function of Personal Intelligence is to find precise information from your personal content, such as emails and photos, in order to answer your queries. According to Google, it operates across text, photo, and video data to deliver answers that are "uniquely tailored" to you.
Enabling the feature grants Gemini access to your data so it can respond to your direct requests and perform tasks. Google emphasizes that because this data "already lives at Google securely, you don't have to send sensitive data elsewhere to start personalizing your experience."
Users have the option to use temporary chats for conversations with Gemini that do not incorporate personalization. Google states that Gemini "aims" to avoid drawing conclusions on its own about sensitive topics like your health, "though it will discuss this data with you if you ask."
Google assures users that Gemini will not be trained "directly" on the contents of your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Instead, training will involve "limited info, like specific prompts in Gemini and the model's responses, to improve functionality over time."
